CLASSICAL CROSSOVER ARTIST CROSSES OVER TO CANADA
Solo Pianist Takes Album of the Year Prize
Montréal, CANADA — Composer-pianist Dan Kennedy’s album Mountains Made of Shadow, Anthems Made of Light (Mt. Pollux Music) has won the 2019 Enlightened Piano Radio "Album of the Year." The announcement, read by Mark Pinkus, came during the Enlightened Piano Radio Concert and Awards Ceremony 19 September 2019, held at Montréal's esteemed Place des Arts, Cinquième Salle.
The album was also named #5 on Gaia Prime Radio’s Best Contemporary Instrumental Albums of 2018.
A native of Bedford, Massachusetts, Kennedy’s music harkens back to the Romantic Era of 1830s Germany when pianists were required to include an improvisation in their home concerts. With a style described as “Classical Crossover,” Dan Kennedy is a contemporary solo pianist, classically trained at Oberlin Conservatory and New England Conservatory.
“People ask me all the time,” says Kennedy, “how I compose my music and the bottom line is, I’m just not sure. It’s not a glamorous process of bringing the music back from a mountain top with lightning flashing all around. It tends to happen for me just by sitting at the piano, collecting the bits and pieces I like. I always play the works a bit differently on different nights.”
