PIANO ALBUM OF COVERS SET TO RELEASE
Recording Artist Bares Private Side
AMHERST, MA — Composing music since the mid-1980s, Dan Kennedy has developed one of the more distinctive voices in the Solo Piano field. After releasing dozens of originals over the last fifteen years, SOLO PIANO COVERS is Dan’s first album of cover tunes, ones which have been personally selected and crafted into piano instrumentals. From Tracy Chapman to U2 to Christina Perri, fans will hear songs that Kennedy usually only plays for friends, family, and private parties.
“I just figured it was time to share my private side.”
With a style sometimes described as Classical Crossover, Dan normally approaches his compositions with a conservatory-trained formal sensibility, and along the way overlays sparkling melodies and flashes of unexpected improvisation. But on this covers album, a pop sensibility is intertwined. A recent reviewer even points to Dan’s use of Floyd Cramer’s “slip-note style.” "The audience member wants ‘entrance points’ into the music, and a well-known pop tune will take them there.”
Just before COVID hit Kennedy won the Enlightened Piano Radio 2019 Album of the Year award. Previously, he performed in 21 states across the U.S.A. as well as Canada, and worked with such luminaries as Will Ackerman, Joe Bongiorno, Charles Neville, Wings drummer Steve Holley, Glen Velez, and T-Bone Wolk. Dan’s music has enjoyed over 442,000 spins on the internet.
“The music is not about me, it’s about my vulnerability and imperfections and the audience feeling deeply connected to what is happening.”
This music was recorded on a Yamaha C6 Concert Grand Piano at Tapeworks Studio in Hartford, CT with engineer Bill Ahearn at the helm. The release date for this digital album is November 19, 2021 to Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, Deezer, and 32 other international streaming platforms. ∆∆∆
